We have officially entered the 24th day of constant protesting as part of the Black Lives Matter movement, the largest civil rights movement in history. Artists have been on the frontlines, donating, and sharing resources daily and it is rewarding to know that the people we support everyday are using their platforms in all the right ways.
One of those artists is Anderson.Paak. Since May 27th, Anderson.Paak has been using his platform to spread awareness about the movement and the issues that we face within our community. Not only has he been active in protesting, he also has been including his son, Khlex, and exposing him to the oppression and equality that Black people face consistently.
On June 18th, Paak took to instagram to announce that he’d be releasing “Lockdown” on Juneteenth, the following day. Included, was a long thank you list featuring influential artists like Andra Day, Jay Rock, SiR, Syd, and Dr Dre.
At midnight, Paak not only release the single on streaming platforms, he also released a visual to go along with it. Though the song itself was powerful and moving, the visuals were raw and made it 10x more emotional.
At the end of the music video Paak highlighted that his non-profit organization, .Paak House, made donations to the Action Bail Fund LA, Atlanta Solidarity Fund, and The Albany Safety Fund For Black Lives. Additionally, the salaries of the cast and crew of the “Lockdown” music video were donated to BEAM (Black Emotional And Mental Health) Collective, Dream Defenders, and Color of Change.
