Is 106&Park Back?

One of the best things to look forward to after school was jetting off the school bus so that we wouldn’t miss the live broadcasting of 106 & Park. Waiting in front of the TV to see if your artist made the countdown brought on a wave of adrenaline. Unfortunately, the weekly wave of excitement came to and end in 2014 after a failed attempt to transition in new hosts after Rocsi and Terrence J‘s term ended.

However, recently, we’ve been seeing a lot of artists post footage of them performing live on “106&Park“. We’ve seen performances by Sammie via BET’s Facebook page titled “106&Park Couchside Concert”. Artists like Masego and Ceraadi, have been answering fan questions through BET’s “106&Park Mic Check” series. Even iconic artists like The Dream, Ledisi, Teddy Riley, Xscape, and Boyz II Men have been featured and interviewed as well.

But what is 106&Park Mic Check and 106&Park Couchside Concert? There’s not a very clear explanation if there is some kind of connection to the show 106&Park or if it’s just a way to gain viewers and traction.

BET describes 106&Park Mic Check as “an ask-me- anything series where artists answers questions from fans via social media”. We were unable to find any concrete information about 106&Park Couchside Concert.

106&Park was a dream for emerging artist. We were able to see artists like Chris Brown, Childish Gambino, Lloyd, Soulja Boy, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, Bobby Valentino, Keri Hilson, Nelly, and so many more break the surface on their stage. Even groups like B2K, Mindless Behavior and the OMG Girlz got their claim to fame on 106&Park.

As substantial as it would be to bring back 106&Park authentically, it is tough to tell what direction BET is deciding to go with the multiple series that they’re releasing. We can only hope for the best.
