About a month ago, NPR released a new Tiny Desk, a series of live concerts hosted by NPR‘s Music Desk in Washington D.C., starring Megan Thee Stallion. Megan performed in a way that wasn’t typical for Tiny Desk performers because she was accompanied by the Brooklyn based musical group Phony Ppl.
The unlikely collaboration came as a surprise to many, especially when they began to perform their, at the time, never heard before song together Fkn Around.
Though Phony Ppl hasn’t released any music since their mō’zā-ik. album in 2018, they’ve been on a roll performing at festivals such as Camp Flog Gnaw, Brooklyn Marathon, One Music Fest, Smokin Grooves, Love Box and more. They’ve also been performing with R&B/Hip-Hop legends such as The Roots and Jill Scott.
After wrapping up their first headlining tour at the end of 2019, PhonyPpl already has a head start on 2020 by booking festivals such as Osheaga and Boston Calling and also being featured on notable playlists such as Spotify’s New Music Friday, Amazon’s Introducing, and Apple Music’s New Music Daily.
